Physiotherapy
At Forestville Physiotherapy, we believe in an active approach to treatment. We offer a variety of treatment techniques tailored to suit the needs of each individual client including:
- Joint Mobilisation – defined as “gentle, oscillatory movements applied by the therapist to a joint (either spinal or peripheral) to increase the passive range of motion of that region.” Our physiotherapists use Maitland, Monaghan, McKenzie and Mulligan mobilisation techniques.
- Muscle Energy Technique – derived from Osteopathy, these techniques use gentle hold-relax contractions and body positioning to treat several lumbopelvic and thoracic rib dysfunctions.
- Trigger point dry needling – uses acupuncture needles to release myofascial trigger points found in tight muscles (e.g. calves) with the goal of improving flexibility and movement in and around that area.
- Soft tissue techniques – directed towards all muscles and fascia of the body; the essence of the approach is to apply pressure to a muscle whilst the muscle is being stretched.
- Taping – can be preventative or assist in rehabilitation; it serves to support ligaments and joints (e.g. ankles) by limiting excessive range of movement and improves proprioceptive feedback to the brain.
- Exercise prescription – a primary goal for us as physiotherapists is to ensure that our patients are exercising safely and efficiently. Our goal is to provide a home exercise program that is enjoyable and will also promote a quicker recovery from symptoms.
In addition, we provide the following services:
- Advice in regards to injury prevention and management
- Casting and splinting
- Fitting of heat-mouldable orthotics
- Post-surgical rehabilitation
- Modalities such as heat, ice, interferential and ultrasound
